Sanders/Warren- the team to beat Trump

Elizabeth Warren called it quits earlier today and a part of me is relieved and a part of me is quite saddened. Relieved, because, in her effort to win the nomination, I think she ran a bit afoul of fair and decent when she called out Bernie on stage after the debate in February. Maybe she drank too much of her own Kool-Aid and felt she needed to tell the old man to step off or maybe she was just a bit gun shy from the Wild West Format of the debate, with shots firing in every direction at everyone. In either case, she lost my vote then and there, and she lost my wife's vote too (not that she ever really had it, I don't think.)

I am saddened though, because she is one of the good guys in politics these days and how can I be too mad at a fellow New Englander who is as much a fan of Middle America,  with Truth, Justice, and  Freedom, as she is. But now that she is out, it's time to take stock and reload because the battle that lies ahead is going to need all hands on deck. The question is which side will Warren be gunning for?

Did her temper tantrum at the debate cause un-mendable damage or is she really fighting for the people of America the way she espoused in her run-up to the primary? If it's the former, that's a real shame, because I think a Sanders/Warren ticket could really shake up the process. Let me explain.

Both Sanders and Warren are populists, whatever that means. They are fighting for the 99%, a term that came about during the Occupy Wall Street protests of 2011, which is when I first learned of Warren and Sanders. Funny we were bitching about this country 9 years ago, but for some reason, if you ask the Democrats, the world ended in 2016 when  Trump won office. But Warren and Sanders both fought on the side of the angels in those times and that is why I know I trust Bernie to continue to fight the good fight as president. But can Warren climb on board now that her time in the spotlight is over?

Does she need a center stage to sell health care for all, student loan reform, environmental revolution or billionaire tax reform? Can she climb on board the Bernie Bus and maybe be his copilot in the Battle for Planet Earth? Or was her posturing in the days of Occupy Wall Street and the collapse of the world economy, just a thing to launch her into political stardom?

I rather think she is the real deal and she will help Bernie, but I am a dewy-eyed socialist apparently according to the Biden Camp, so what do I know?

I do know this. There are two sides to this fight for the Democratic Nominee- the side of the angels and the other side. It's not that the other side is bad, they are just out of touch. They lack fore site and are incapable of herding the pile cats that is the Democratic electorate. You can decide which side it is, that you think is the "other side".  But for my nickel, the side that is fighting to ensure we all can eat, drink, and breath on this planet, while getting health care and an education that doesn't bankrupt us, is the side I think that is right. Warren I think would agree with that, as would Sanders.

Biden would say he agrees with that, but then tell us at the same time, that we don't really need to breath or eat anytime soon because we are being too radical. He would tell us that while shaking the hand of the woman who allowed her husband to get a blow job in the Oval Office, and he (her husband) argued with us about the definition of the word "is". Biden would also have us believe that Trump is the only thing that is wrong with this Country.  As you and I know, however, there is a lot more wrong with this country, let alone this world, that anyone who tells me I need to be more patient needs their face slapped.

Bernie is fighting for a global cause, a  better planet, and a brighter tomorrow. I don't care if we beat Trump or not, because ultimately the problem is bigger than some orange-haired toddler with Napoleon complex. And I think that's what the American voter needs to hear. True enough, Trump scares the hell out of some of the most reasonable people around, but the problems we need to address are bigger than that and the people of this country need to hear someone addressing those issues.

The Trump-voting Farmers all see that climate is a critical factor in their success. Even the white supremacist red neck living in the trailer across the street from me fears the bill she will get, if and when she needs to go get her diabetes treated. And every American hates the fact that billionaires are running our country and we are just the poor slops who have to go to work every day to pay the taxes.

These people will never vote for Biden, nor will I. I don't like the Trumpists, but I see their point. Sanders and Warren together could develop a platform that speaks to the climate-denying Farmer and the chain-smoking mother of six with the Trump flag flying from her trailer, equally well.  Joe Biden can't and won't ever think to. He's on board with the woman who called these folks the "bucket of deplorables". And they are deplorable, but they are also voters and my neighbors and we both need some help to get along in this world.

I believe that Sanders and Warren can offer that kind of help if we give them a chance. I believe that if  Biden is successful, we not only won't get Trump out of office, we will fiddle while Rome is burning. Biden can not and will not win the hearts of minds of the heartland of this country because the Democrats can't win the hearts and minds of the middle of this country. If Warren joined Sanders in the fight, that would show Middle America that Sanders and Warren are not doing this to be in charge of the world, but rather doing this to save the world. And by doing so, they will convince all those Middle Americans to vote for someone other than Trump. But as I said, I am just a dewy-eyed socialist.
